Happy World Tourism Day Folks! Felt like sharing my deepest concern on this wonderful day. I feel like it’s the right time to share. Before that, let me introduce this illustration which I spent almost 4-5 hrs to ideate and creating. Behind is a part of Western Ghats, and as you can see, the Nilgiri Toy Train is flying in the sky😂 and then seashore which is an important part of Tamil Nadu Tourism. Next, below are some of my favourite sites and buildings like the Kanyakumari Thiruvalluvar statue site, Mahabalipuram Shore Temple, One of the Church in Manapad and a boat(not sure why I drew it, when I thought of tourism, suddenly it crossed my mind).
Travelling and Tourism are something that I value so much. It used to be more of a rejuvenation. It is more of an experience that continues to add meaning to my life even at hopeless times and that’s what pushed me to become an MBA Tourism Management Grad. Still, over the past 2 years, I realised how scarce the job opportunity in this field is in Tamil Nadu, India. Well, India as a whole, tbh. There are very less job opportunities in Destination Management, Tourism Marketing, Sustainable Development of Tourism and in various other areas. Even if there are, finding one is quite like looking for rain in a barren land. Even if you find some and email your resume… You would hardly get a response.
Though there are quite several opportunities available in Travel agencies like Pickyourtrail, Make my trip, Tripoto etc… For a country like India, having opportunities only in Travel Agencies is kind of depressing… I have even noticed and heard, even in Travel agencies engineering students are most wanted😂 than tourism grads. I know, it’s kind of disappointing.
Because, I have encountered so many spectacular and reliable organizations both government and private available in many countries like Australia, USA, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, and UAE by creating diverse job roles in Tourism Arena and increasing more opportunities for tourism management aspirants… I am starting to feel hopeless these days though.
So, I am not sure… My passion to become a Tourism Destination manager and contributing to Tourism as a professional feels kind of questionable at present. I am even thinking about moving on these days. I have been asking atleast 5 times a day, should I just compromise?… But I am pretty sure I will be trying my best in promoting tourism as an individual contributor through my blogs and podcasts in the future or even by becoming a travel writer. Who knows… I feel like giving up my dream to become a tourism professional is quite tough.
